Yesterday was the birthday, tonight is the celebration. Not sure about the lack of blogging though -- it's not like I was busy.

Right-wing mob urges the lynching of Attorney General Eric Holder -- ironically, because Holder wants to uphold rule of law.
The Winter Olympics start tonight, and Ghana will be representing for the first time.
In sadder news, a Georgian luger died hours before the opening ceremonies in a crash during a practice run.
Voters like gays and lesbians; homosexuals, less so.
Liberal Democrat (UK) MP Baroness Jenny Tonge was sacked from a high profile party position after demanding Israel undertake investigations of completely unsubstantiated allegations of organ theft in Haiti.
Meanwhile, this is a good post on the longevity and impressive staying power of organ theft rumors (not just about Jews or Israelis).
Jews face the highest rate of hate crimes of any religious group in the United States (Blacks are the most targeted overall).
A Tennessee Muslim community is the subject of a sensationalist CBS report questioning whether it is a secret terrorist training facility. It isn't, but gets hit with vandalism anyway in its wake.
It's nice that Glenn Beck disavowed 9/11 troofer-flirting candidate Gloria Medina, but to call it impressive would be to lower our expectations bar underground.
Hedging Hollywood -- a brilliant scheme to induce bad filmmakers to actively try and make their movies worse.
Medina's answer to that question was pretty much a mirror image to Glenn Beck's take on the question of FEMA labor camps, so there you go...
ReplyDeleteSomeday there's gonna be a book, with that asshole's picture right next Father Coughlin's.
"Right-wing mob urges the lynching of Attorney General Eric Holder -- ironically, because Holder wants to uphold rule of law."
ReplyDeleteI went to the linked article and, wow, was this line ever misleading!
In a liberal democracy, we make a distinction between demonstrators and "mobs.
Further, one nut yelling "Lynch Holder" does not amount to the mob's "urging" his lynching.
Most importantly, the "rule of law" certainly does not require Holder to try KSM in a civilian court in southern Manhattan.
Sheesh. I coulda thought I was reading The Daily Kos.
Most importantly, the "rule of law" certainly does not require Holder to try KSM in a civilian court in southern Manhattan.
ReplyDeleteMost importantly, yes, it kind of does. Rule of law means that even bad people get the benefits of legal processes. In fact, I'm not sure what other definition there is of "rule of law" aside from "everyone gets the benefits of legal processes, as opposed to arbitrary detention and railroad justice".
This is long after the event but I wanted to throw out my opinion:
ReplyDeleteThe main thing about Jenny Tonge's road from prominent UK politician to disgraced and fired loser (which she utterly earned and completely deserved) that I enjoyed stemming from the Haiti fiasco mentioned here is that Tonge was both trapped by her own beliefs AND staggeringly stupid in how she approached this situation. Given the source of the IDF organ thief lies in relation to Haiti--an African-American half-assed blogger named T. West who was so clearly deranged that even other anti-Israel extremists got one look/listen to him and ran away at warp speed--even someone of Tonge's, um, obvious limitations would joined other freaks and said "not this time" by resolving to tell Stephen Lendman they'd get in touch again soon. But when the late, unlamented Palestine Telegraph picked up the T. West story as fact and demanded action be taken against the IDF, Tonge was stuck with two bad choices: turn her back on the paper she served as a patron of, or treat this ludicrous matter seriously so she'd be seen as standing up for them. She chose Door #2. I'm not sad this door fell of its hinges and crushed her fat ass.
