This is an old fad. I remember hearing about it in high school. I also fail to see what is "morbid and creepifying" about this that is not likewise for:
a) putting the dead in boxes and burying them b) burning the dead and keeping their ashes in a jar c) wearing necklaces decorated with an instrument of torture (crucifixes?)
