Beyond Bad Taste

With the caveat that this seems to be a very thinly sourced story (relying on random Daily Kos commenters? For serious?), I still feel comfortable saying that anyone who attacks Elizabeth Edwards for not "handling" her husband's affair correctly from a political standpoint (that is, not going public with it) is a seriously twisted individual.

I don't care about Elizabeth or John Edwards beyond what he is trying to accomplish for the good of the people. If we don't care about homosexual behavior and promiscuity then why should we care about marital fidelity and promiscuity.

I am sure glad that we don't hold CEO's and movie stars to the same standards as politicians or else we would be bored to tears at the movies and our corporations would be falling from the sky.

I don't think it's anyone's business. I didn't like Edwards (<3 Ron Paul!), but at the same time I do not think that a woman should feel pressured to reveal the secrets of her marriage.

I wouldn't want everyone I work with to know that I was cheated on, or that someone I loved broke my heart. They might see it, sure, but why would I go telling everyone my personal business?

It was not Elizabeth's Edwards place to reveal her husband's affair to the public, nor was it her duty to do so.

The only thing that would have accomplished would have provided more fodder to the press. Moreover, if she had, she would have been criticized for doing so.

Leave the poor lady alone. She is suffering enough.
