Picture, Meet Lead

CNN has an article up on Saskatchewan's status as a jobs "hot spot".
Normally, "hot spot" isn't the first phrase that comes to mind when talking about Saskatchewan. But with most of Canada suffering from devastating job losses, this cold province is becoming exactly that. Premier Brad Wall encourages people not to count out a move to the area based on stereotypes that it is "only winter here," and "all of the land is just rolling hills." full story

If Mr. Wall is hoping the stereotype that his province is an isolated arctic outpost would be dispelled by this article, he probably was hoping for a different picture to go along with it:

Fun? Yes. Height of civilization? Not quite.

ha, as a Sask resident it's nice to have some recognition. We hear so much about job loss, yet there are many companies here who have to aggressivly raise wages to attract people because there are too many available jobs. The article mentioned oil, potash etc. but failed to mention a rising tech sector, especially in Saskatoon. Even Regina has some promising upstarts like NetSecure Technologies, makers of SmartSwipe (www.smartswipe.ca). so, although we have a lot of open space and over 100,000 lakes, we are finally becoming an economic powerhouse...i just wish it didnt have to come at the expense of the rest of the world...

  5. People should really research the kind of so called jobs that are in abundance in saskatchewan. mainly they are service industry mcjobs that can not sustain any sort of livelihood unless you want to bunk with six roommates. and what rolling hills is this guy talking about? it is so flat, there is a joke you can see your dog run away for three days here. and how about all the freezing deaths that occur there. do some research folks.
