A New Low

I'm actually amazed (and it's tough for media depravity to amaze me) that the Washington Post managed to put together a whole article on how Elena Kagan doesn't cross her legs when she sits. You have got to be kidding me.

  1. Did you read the second page? All of the emphasis on how drab she dresses and how she doesn't cross her legs when she sits builds up to the question of whether these style signs point to her being a lesbian! I thought Andrew Sullivan was offensive about this - the WP has topped him! (And by the way, I am a lesbian, and I really don't understand why Andrew thinks it's somehow homophobic of the Obama administration not to tell us what her sexual orientation is; nor do I think that Kagan is a self-hating closet case if she doesn't tell us her sexual orientation).

  2. P.S., that is, if she's a lesbian.

  3. Don't you think that this has something to do with the fact that nobody really knows anything about her? I think that they are simply trying to fill in the vacuum. The White House should probably be more proactive in stemming the flow of disinformation and give her the kind of image that they want her to have.

At the same time I doubt that this will come up during the hearings.

  4. Actually, I didn't mind the article. I mean, it's not actually entirely about her legs, and they also point out that dressing drab and matronly is pretty much how you get taken seriously in DC.

Now for offensive speculative madness, this, I think, is about as best (so obviously, worst) I've seen re: Kagan:

  5. But it does retail some of the obnoxious rumors about her sexual orientation - why don't you object to that, Matthew?
