Statehood Ho

The cynic in me thinks that DC's loss of a Black majority is, far and away, the best thing that could have happened to it in terms of getting real voting rights in Congress.

Well it sounds like mostly they're being replaced by brown people. And will the folks you're thinking of really consider that more kindly?

The District will continue always to support the Democratic candidate regardless of merit (except for David Catania). As a result, the Republicans simply will never support the idea of giving real congressional representation to D.C.

I have no trouble with that. I voluntarily lived there for 35 years while knowing that that would be the policy. Moreover, no matter how sophisticated the argument is, D.C. is not a state within the meaning of Article I, Sec. 2 of the Constitution.
