So Young ... So Very Young

All I can add to this series of photographs of Michael Steele and his interns (aside from the obvious) is that I am utterly unsurprised to see Georgetown Prep so, er, flagrantly represented. Nice belt, dude.

Who else is going to be interns for the more conservative party. Non-whites are much more liberal than whites. Also, the more conservative party would be less interested in quotas and diversity hires than the more liberal party.

Of course, those Republicans interns should be smart enough to realize that there is no future in conservative politics in the U.S. because there is not enough middle class, private sector whites to keep the party going.

Superdestroyer you make me ashamed to like Star Wars.

Republicans are completely for token diversity hires, they've proven it time and time again. An uncharitable view of Michael Steele is that he is one such hire. Of course it's important to differentiate the policy of Token Black Republican in a visible position with any sort of policy that would apply to underrepresented minorities in education or employment outside of the GOP chattering class. "For we but not for thee."

OF course, the problem for the GOP looking to trade its alleged principles for PR points, the reason why there are still relatively few high profile Republican people of color is that there just aren't that many minorities who want to associate with the party in the first place.

Of course, when you go beyond tokenism and actually give a damn about diversity and opportunity for people besides white males you'll find a lot of talent to choose from. See: Barack Obama.

Of course you would point out the half white Obama who was raised by his white mother and white grandparents as an example of the talent in the AFrican-American community. I guess Valerie Jarret or Eric Holder would be other examples.

Until you can find an AFrican-American who actually has slave instead of slave holders in their ancestory and who actually attended public schools, then please give up the idea that the Democratic Party is filled with talented blacks.

Ah, the reverse one drop rule. Even Cheryl Harris wasn't so bold as to predict that one. I particularly love how "slave" and "slaveholder" ancestry is considered mutually exclusive. Because lord knows slaveholders didn't ever rape slaves.

Anyway, John Dingell, John Conyers, Artur Davis, Cory Booker (I'm guessing he doesn't count because he wasn't poor), Michelle Obama, and Donna Edwards all meet your entirely random and arbitrary qualifications (more assuredly do, I just got bored).

Superdestroyer is deciding who is "really" black, with part of the criteria being whether one attended public schools (Condoleezza Rice, not black because she went to a private all-girls Catholic high school!). That's my laugh of the day.
