In Conclusion, I Don't Understand Why Jews Keep Voting Democratic

Republican Congressman invites Holocaust denier to the State of the Union.

Holocaust denier (and former head of the American Nazi Party) to be Republican congressional nominee in Chicago.

Republican Sheriff (and Trump pardon recipient) Joe Arpaio gives repeated interviews with antisemitic publication, then gives the same "I didn't know who they were excuse" twice in four years.

Yep, it sure is strange why Jews keep supporting the Democratic Party by crushing margins, year after year.

Does that Star-Spangled Banner Yet Wave

Checking in on Sheriff Joe:

A diet of bread and water is the punishment for dozens of Arizona inmates who allegedly defaced American flags placed in their jail cells.

"These inmates have destroyed the American flag that was placed in their cells," Arpaio said. "Tearing them, writing on them, stepping on them, throwing them in the toilet, trash or wherever they feel. It's a disgrace ... this is government property that they are destroying, and we will take action against those who act this way."

The flags are part of a push for patriotism in county jail cells that includes listening to the "Star-Spangled Banner" every morning and "God Bless America" every night over the intercom system.

Piping in patriotic songs and hanging flags in a notoriously abusive prison and then punishing the inmates with bread and water when they don't show adequate appreciation. It'd be difficult to make-up a better Orwellian America mash-up.

You've Lost It

The National Review demands Republicans cut ties with Maricopa County sheriff Joe Arpaio. The instigating event is Arpaio's birtherism (it could have as easily been issuing indictments aimed at suppressing opponents, or his propensity towards racial profiling).

So, on the one hand, a belated good-for-you to the National Review. And one could query just how nuts one has to be in order to lose the website that publishes Andrew "Bill Ayers ghost-wrote Obama's book" McCarthy. But the most important thing to remember is that the effect of this column will be approximately nothing. The National Review can stoke the fears of the GOP base, but it can't put out any fires. When it seeks to stand athwart the runaway train of the conservative id and yell "stop", it will be flattened like a pancake -- assuming anyone even notices at all.
